Throw a shoe, win a bride–in jail. Brilliant.

Marriage and prison sentences, two things usually of arbitrary and senseless grounds in the Middle East, recent overlapped when the head a large West Bank family rewarded Iraqi journalist and shoe-hurdler al-Zeidi with an offer for his daughter as a  bride.

Oh yes. Ahmad Salim Judeh of Nablus has offered to send one of his daughters to Iraq, complete with her dowry. And in times of financial crisis, and when wives become more expensive than ever, this is certainly a big gesture.

Judeh also stated that his family had raised some $30,000 for Al-Zeidi’s legal defense. He probably thought that there was no better use for those funds as surely communities in Nablus, neighboring Jenin or Gaza have everything they need to maintain their livelihoods. It’s all about priorities.
